Don't Miss The Moments

Life is crazy. I never cease to be amazed at how fast paced our culture seems to travel through life. I remember vividly the day that our kids were born, but I look up now and realize that my son is about to be 10! I remember all the advice you get when you're a young parent about enjoying the time you have with your kids, but it's true. If I'm not careful, I will look up and they'll be grown. That's why Shanon and I are trying to be more deliberate about not only own lives but about our family as well. Last night, my awesome neighbor, Chris, hooked us up once again with tickets to go see the Rough Riders. This time is was just us guys with our sons. We had a blast! We not only got see how fascinated our kids were with fireworks and foul balls, but Chris and his son discovered the greatness of the Lemon Chill! As I tucked my kiddo in bed, he ask if he could sleep with the baseball I just bought him. As I turned out the light, I realize how cool tonight was for us. In whatever stage you are in life, I want to encourage you to experience life to the fullest and don't miss the moments.

A Much Needed Vacation

Sorry that I haven't posted a blog in over a week, but last week me and the fam took a much needed vacation. We had a blast! We stayed in a house that backed up to the Blanco River in a little town named Wimberly. It was great. The river was so relaxing, and our kids absolutely loved looking for and catching fish. We also got to go to Fiesta Texas a couple of times where our kids fell in love with roller coasters and water rides! I think we road that Loony Tune Log ride three times in a row. While we were at the park on Thursday, we found out that the R & B group "Boyz To Men" was in concert. Of course, my kids had no idea who they were, but it was awesome listening to their "Old School" love songs as we were waiting in line for one of the roller coasters. You know you're old when a group you listened to high school is now playing on a Thursday afternoon at a theme park and are considered "Old School". Is it just me or do almost every one of their songs have a little part where the guy who sings bass talks in his sexy, love doctor, voice? That is true greatness right there. Anyway, it was a great trip, and it so much fun hanging out with Shanon and the kids.

Back At Youth Camp

There are some things that you do for so long that eventually they are just in your blood. Apparently, summer youth camp is that for me. After coming to Eagle Pointe last summer, I remember having dinner with Shanon one June night and asking "Shouldn't we be at youth camp right now?" It felt so weird after all those years of youth ministry to not be at camp. Well, it appears that I was just on a little break, because I am out of retirement and back at youth camp this week down at Lakeview Camp outside of Waxahachie. We are having a total blast! There are about 650 students here, and it has been amazing to just hang out with them and get to watch God work in their lives during the evening services. My life was completely transformed at camp, so I believe in it's importance. As a leader, it's also a real privilege to not only hang out with students but also get to know some of the other pastors and leaders from the North Texas area. By the way, the food is shockingly good. That's a first!
