What A Difference A Year Makes

Yesterday was an incredible day! No, it wasn't an incredible day just because I'm a pastor and people expect me to say that about Sunday. The reason for my excitement is because I remember quite vividly what last year's Memorial Day Weekend's service felt like -very lonely. I remember it well, because I had just started here as Pastor, and Shanon and the kids were still in Houston with the kiddos still in school and waiting on the house to sell. Shanon made a point to call me that morning to encourage me, because we both new it would probably feel pretty empty. We were right, but I knew that God had a great purpose for us being here and determined to move forward. Yesterday felt completely different! We had triple the amount in attendance, but what I loved the most was the awesome experience of the service and watching all of the people connecting in genuine friendships.(We literally have to eventually run them out after service or they would never leave!) Each week I am amazed at the things that God is doing in our lives and the people who are connecting here at Eagle Pointe. What a difference a year makes.

Saying Thank You

In the life and span of every church, there are people that come and go in our lives. People get transferred, go away to school, completely relocate, and some feel God's call to go to a new place. That is the case with our worship pastor Steven Robertson. He has felt God's calling to go to Hillsong's college in Australia for a year to further his education for ministry. It's never easy to make a move like this, but when Christ is the center of your life you have to trust in the destiny and sovereignty of God. I can't even begin to express what a blessing Steven has been to Eagle Pointe Church not only as our worship leader but as a great friend. He is in some way connected to almost everyone in our church and is simply a great encouragement to so many. As pastor, he has been my constant support and the true picture of a servant for anything that I've asked him to do. From our first Sunday here, we connected that is why I was more than a little anxious when he began to share with me what he was feeling. I know that this move for Steven is a God thing, and I know that as he stays yielded God will open some huge doors for him in the future. We love you man, and we'll definitely keep you in our prayers. If you would like to leave a little note of encouragement to Steven please post your comment down below.

The Last Lecture

Last weekend, I spoke for the second week of our series "30 Days To Live", and during the message, we showed a clip about Randy Pausch who is the author of the best selling book, "The Last Lecture". Have you heard about his story or seen any of the last lecture on the web? He is professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and last September he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has only a few months to live. Many colleges host events called, "The Last Lecture" in which there professors are asked to give a lecture as if it was there last one, but for Randy it was. It was incredible, and his main reason for doing it was to leave some of life's most precious teaching and wisdom to his three sweet children. I have just started the book, so I will update you on how it is, but I want to encourage you to check out his story. It's pretty incredible. If you have seen his lecture, what did you think?

Gone Fishin'

Last week, Aaron and I got the chance to get away one morning and hit a new fishing hole he found. We had a blast! I didn't even care if I caught anything. I haven't been fishing in at least 3 or 4 years. It was just cool hanging out, getting outdoors, and of course muddin in the Bronco! I hated to shame Aaron with the catch that day, but I just couldn't help it. Keep your head up man. You'll reel in a big one some day! On a serious note, I have now been the pastor here at Eagle Pointe for one year, and the thing that I am the most thankful for is the people. Your love, support, and friendship mean more than you'll ever know.

30 Days To Live

Yesterday, I started my new series titled, "30 Days To Live". This series was really birthed out of many different things that I have read lately or encountered personally. From watching an interview conducted by Dianne Sawyer with Professor Randy Pausch from Carnegie Mellon University who has authored the best selling book "The Last Lecture" to the untimely death of one of my wife's cousins, I have been reminded in such a real way of how fragile life really is, and I want my time of this earth to have purpose and really matter. The big question is: How do we accomplish that? I think we spend our times as if we had 30 days left to live. I am not trying to depress anyone or being morbid on of all days a Monday, but I really want to hear from you on this one. If you knew you had just 30 days left to live, how would you live it? It can be anything from spending time on key relationships to your own personal "bucket list". Let me know what you would do.

The Drink Outreach Was A Blast

This afternoon we did another drink outreach on Loop 288, and it was a total blast! The idea of the event is simply to bless people with a cold drink while they survive the crazy traffic on 288. Today, we passed over 450 bottles of water and cans of Dr. Pepper & Sprite in a little over an hour. People kept trying to gives us a donation, but we wouldn't take it. They kept asking, "Why are you doing this?", and we would say, "We know that traffic stinks and we just wanted to bless you." People just aren't used to that. Of course, there were people that look at you like you're a total freak, but most people were very appreciative. Some were actually glad for our cards, because they have been looking for a church where they can connect. No matter what happens, it was still a very cool and practical way to bless people.
