Kids Are So Awesome

Everyday my kids make me laugh. Whether it is hearing some funny story from school or just hearing their laughter, to watch life through their eyes is simply amazing. Yesterday was our daughter's 6Th birthday, and it just reminded me of how awesome kids really are. She woke up to a cupcake with chocolate icing with a candle in it and us singing her happy birthday. Her eyes just lit up. She then got to open a present before she headed off to school. To say that she was a little excited about the Hannah Montana shirt and bracelet was the understatement of the year.(She wanted to wear the shirt again today) We had a great time celebrating her birthday down on the town square at the light festival, and we ask her what she would like for her special dinner. To our surprise, she wanted to go home and make some homemade pizza. She got her wish, and it concluded an awesome day that God reminded me once again how blessed we all are to have the gift of family. I want to encourage you, especially during this season, to take the time to enjoy being with your family if possible and let them know how much they are loved and appreciated.

A Very Different Way To Bless The Community

Here at Eagle Pointe Church, we experimented with a very different way to bless our community this past Saturday. There is no place in Denton that has more traffic problems than on Loop 288 with all of the construction. Everyone hates it, but it's just a fact of life until the work is completed. In order to prevent road rage or just help the drivers in their pain, we passed out ice cold bottles of water and cans of coke on Saturday afternoon. It went awesome! We gave out over 300 cans and bottles in about 45 minutes, and the people were very thankful and surprised at the same time. One mom with kids packed in her SUV told us that we made her day. Many would ask, "Why are you doing this?" We would say, "We know that traffic stinks and we just wanted to bless you." Obviously, some didn't understand and would look at you like you were a freak, but that is expected. Some of us probably deserve that label. Our team of volunteers had a blast doing it and we'll definitely do it again soon. The bottom line is that we were able to show the love of Christ to the community in a very practical way and that's what we're trying to be all about.
