Seizing Your Moment

For the last few weeks, PBS has been airing this incredible series by Director Ken Burns titled, "The War". I love history and for some reason especially the history of WWII. The series follows three towns in the United States and the impact the war not only had upon the soldiers but everyone at home as well. The interviews are awesome, and they show up close and personal all that we have to be thankful for. In one interview, someone stated that, "we knew that Hitler had to be stopped so it made all of the sacrifices worth it." That generation knew that their life had purpose, so they seized the moment that was before them. I am so grateful they did. What about you? Have you ever thought about your life purpose? I think that most of us minimize the impact that our lives can have upon others. I realize that we're not in the middle of a World War, but that doesn't mean that there are not causes both locally and globally that we can't make a difference in. We get too caught up in the busy day to day to see the big picture. I encourage you find creative ways that you can use your gifts, talents, or resources to help others. I believe in doing this we truly seize our moment and experience life at its best.

"Ugly Tony" and The Craziest Cowboy Win Ever

Was last night's game crazy or what? I have never seen a Cowboy game or especially a Cowboy win so bizarre. Make no mistake about it. It was not pretty. It was an ugly win, but none the less it was a win. Forget about "Ugly Betty", it was all about "Ugly Tony". Even though that was Tony Romo's worst game by far, I have to give him credit for never giving up. Most of us would have. He said he just determined to keep playing. With having some guys in the church over, it got pretty rowdy in my living room after the game winning field goal. After all, we didn't have much to cheer about all game long. That game got me to thinking. Sometimes life can be just like that. Anything that can go wrong does. It seems that everything is stacked against you. In that situation, we must determine that we never lose our faith and never stop trying. Who knows? At the last second, it may all turn around for you as well.

Finding Your Rhythm

I can't dance. I know that. That is not new information for me. Don't get me wrong. I can slow dance with my wife, and growing up in Texas I have two-stepped a time or two. I can even dance a horrible version of what some people call the "Running Man" that I learned being a teenager of the 80's, but I am talking about someone that has rhythm and can dance to anything. During Christmas while at Disney World, I saw one of the most hilarious T-shirts ever. It had what looked like the rectangular symbol for a movie rating with OC in big letters. It read "Overly Caucasian - Do not allow on the dance floor." That is a perfect shirt for me and many others I know.
Even though I may never be on "Dancing with the Stars", I feel that I've found my rhythm. I am referring to the rhythm of my life. In a nutshell, living this life with purpose and destiny and not looking up and realizing that life has passed you by. We live in a sometimes crazy and fast paced world that doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon, and at times it just gets overwhelming. Those are the times to take a break, get away, and retreat. I did that this week. I had the chance to travel a little south of Austin and stay at a house on the Blanco River. It was amazing. I took the time to relax, pray, and seek God for direction for our church. Things are going well, and it's great to watch the church grow but sometime you need to break away and refocus on the things that matter most. As you go about your day and as you live your life, take some time to rest and relax and focus on what's really important. It's there that you too will find your rhythm.
