The Greatness Of Taco Bueno

I warned the church this past Sunday that sometimes my blog would have a more serious or encouraging feel to it, but at other moments it would be totally random. Today is definitely a random day that will require a little participation on your part.
Today, I want to talk about the greatness of Taco Bueno. I love good Mexican food. I emphasize good, because not all Mexican food is created equal. I also have learned that every one's definition of great Mexican food is different. When we lived in Arizona, we learned that it didn't exist. Being back in the Dallas area after being gone for almost 8 years, I have realized again how delicious Taco Bueno is for fast Mexican food. When you compare the taste and the inexpensive price, it's hard to beat. I feel that I speak about this with some authority, because I am a self proclaimed Mexican food connoisseur. Some people's expertise could be in fine wine or since we're in Texas BBQ, but mine is the food with a South of the Border flavor. Don't misunderstand my opinion about Taco Bueno compared to all other Mexican Food. It can't even compare to the flavor and quality of a Pappasita's, Little Gringo's Kitchen from Houston, Abuelo's, or in my opinion the best tacos on the planet from Fede's Tacos in Monterrey, Mexico. What it does blow away in taste and quality is it's rival Taco Bell or as I refer to it "Taco Smell". Even though I feel I am right in this belief, I realize that some have drifted over to the dark side and love Taco Bell. In order to search for the truth or maybe just public opinion, please post a comment on this blog stating your personal favorite. On another random day coming soon, I'll post the results. See ya @ Bueno!

One Very Cool Day

Have you ever had one of those days where everything just falls into place? Have you ever thought what have I done to deserve this? Sunday was one of those days for me. It was just an awesome day! We had an incredible service at church where one of our guest received Christ into his life. Then after church, I headed to Houston to meet up with the Fam for Father's Day and take a couple of days off.(We're still in transition while we're waiting for our house there to sale) I couldn't get there fast enough. We actually met in the Woodlands at one of my favorite restaurants P.F. Chang's. How can my Father's Day go wrong with that kind of food? Shanon and the kids totally surprised me with a very sweet shirt and a new framed picture of Dawson and Caroline for my Father's Day gift. This is such a great age to watch them experience life. They are a blast. We ended our meal by sharing a huge piece of cake called "The Great Wall Of Chocolate", and let's just say it didn't take long. When I look at my beautiful wife and the kids that he blessed us with, I realize God's love and favor in a fresh way, and being with them made it one very cool day.

The Connection That Counts

How did we function before e-mail and the Internet? The speed at which our computers operate and the speed of our Internet connection is nothing short of amazing. All of that changed for me last week with the arrival of one of our recent thunderstorms to our area. My blazing connection to the world wide web at the church became very sporadic to say the least and at times slowed down to a crawl. I would sit at my computer in an almost lifeless stupor watching and waiting for the little green bars to fill the box and send my simple e-mail. I knew there was a serious problem, so I checked all of my connections and even called a technical support person who wasted an hour of my life with no solution. In a state of emergency, I had to resort to hanging out at Panera Bread to use their wireless for three hours to send some files and art work.(I think they felt sorry for me and kept giving me free pizza samples!) Yesterday, my Internet company sent out a technician to find the problem. Upon inspecting the lines near the road, he found that our cable had been completely severed from the recent storm. It didn't matter what I did on my laptop or with the wires in my office. The connection that counted the most was severed. The same is true for us in our lives. When the storms of life hit, we often look in all the wrong places for the solution. In Colossians 1:16, the Bible teaches us that we were made by God and for God. In other words, we were made for relationship. It is that connection with Christ that brings the love, joy, and fulfillment that our lives so desperately need. He is the connection that truly counts. Have a great week, and we hope to see you this Sunday as we talk about "Getting Connected".
